River Coho Salmon

(Slideshow is ALL River Fishing)

Drift boat $500 for two ($250 each)  $400 for one person private boat and $750 for three anglers

We fish two people per boat most days

Washington’s Olympic peninsula offers some of the best salmon fishing anywhere. The salmon action combined with a peaceful float through the woods is a tough experience  to match. The silvers (Coho) start trickling in to the coastal rivers in early September and are  there in good numbers by the end of September. The peak time for silvers is October 1 until Dec 1. There are a few places that fish well for silvers till mid-December.

The average size of the silvers are 6 to 15 pounds with fish over 20 pounds possible.

All river trips  are in  drift boats we usually meet before daylight and fish until dark most days.

On a normal day we will hook several silvers and usually some other salmon (kings September to mid Nov) and (chum end of Oct to end of Nov) steelhead possible ( end of Nov and Dec).

Although the best method to catch silvers  an change with the conditions (water height, water color, time of year and temperature) the following are a few of my favorite techniques for catching silvers:

Twitching jigs, casting spinners, egg and bobber, casting plugs, pulling plugs

We normally fish two people at a time in our drift boats.  You can buy a private trip if you would like to have the boat  to yourself or a 3rd person can be added if the combined weight of the 3 people  is less then 500 pounds. You will want to bring good rain gear tops and bottoms and waterproof boots (if you have waders I would strongly suggest you bring them) .  We may have to get out of the drift boat if water conditions are low or if there is a tree across the river. It is also nice to get out of the boat and fish from the bank at times. Please dress warm it can get cold in the drift boats in fall and winter even with a heater.  I would  recommend some glovers hand warmers  and a waterproof hat.

You will want to bring your lunch and drinks also. Please pack light as there is not much room in our drift boats and extra weight makes it harder to row and anchor the boat.

Here is a  list of rivers I like to fish for salmon:

Humptulips, Satsop, Wynoochee, Chehalis,  Clearwater (WA), Hoh, Bogachiel, Sol Duc,
